A lot of people in their early to mid 20’s can’t even find a full time job or something that is stable so a 401K at 20 is almost impossible.

He talks like putting a 100 dollars a week towards retirement at the age of 20 is no problem at all

One of the mistakes I regret is getting into debt from student loans. I got my degree in game design which in hindsight I probably could have found another avenue into the game industry without getting myself into so much debt especially where I didn't end up using it where I become self employed as someone repairing game consoles rather than making games. so yeah that's a good tip about student loans.

Most of your viewers are not making 5000$ per month, stop talking exclusively as if that is the reasonable example

The Bronze Spoon Investor with Steven Labrenz 19/10/2021 - 4:28 PM

Thank you Ryan, my name is Steven Labrenz and I'm the host of the Bronze Spoon Investor. The 401K is such a complicated mess these days! Yes if you are fortunate to sign up for a 401K you should be contributing as much as you can! 56% of millennials not contributing!! THAT IS CRAZY! People my age (I'm in my early 30's) make the $1M DOLLAR MISTAKE, by not letting the time value of money work for them! I have never bought an expensive car! I only buy used reliable vehicles but I have made mistakes! Haha. I know how to use Facebook marketplace and Craigslist to find great deals. At the end of the day vehicles are DEPRECIATING ASSETS! I like the 10% pre-tax income rate for a total monthly vehicle expense, that's a good starting point! I HATE STUDENT LOANS! Haha love your comment on your degree and transparency of your Grandfather paying for your college. I paid $40 THOUSAND DOLLARS in student loan debt in 4 years working full time! Always good to have a plan for after college and know the marketplace and potential income. "OH SHIT I NEED AN ART HISTORY MAJOR" Hahah so true! Plumbers in Washington State are making $50-75 thousand per year!! We need more people in the Trades and our schools teaching young people why that is a respectable AND smart decision! Oh man, people are gonna ding you on the number 4. Rule: NO PETS!!! But hey its an expense and a big financial obligation and I think your right the thought process of how much its going to cost to care and comfort is most likely not realized. Risk is a hard concept for young people. Its the hardest thing you can do. "What are you going to enjoy doing at the end of the day" I really like that quote! Would be curious to know your struggles of making YouTube videos while working your job? When was the reflection point you decided to quit your job and do YouTube full time? Great video, good work!

finally got to a position to even think about saving and im 28, to think you will even save money in your 20's is flawed unless you live with your parents. (stay at home as long as you can). currently saving for a house. BUT i dont believe i will ever reach retirement. yes saving is a good idea but i think one should live while they can. for example i ride motorcycles as a hobby. very expensive hobby. anyways, i could die tomorrow if someone wasnt paying attention. but i enjoy it, at 65 your not going to be able to experience things like could have if you were younger. (if you even make it to 65 your bodily functions start to decline at 50ish) then what will you do with all that money?

Drugs and alcohol can rack up super easily. But anyway, I'm trying to save up for a car, i only make 10.25 an hour, get paid biweekly, part time, etc. I'm thinking of saving up 6 grand then go to a used car dealership. Is that a good plan? Also, referring to your first tip, do I need to start putting money in my 401k or could I wait till I have a car, build credit, and move out?

The flaw in this logic is that you'll live to be old & with no unexpected problems.
BEST MONEY SAVING IS, picking the right partner.
My uncle is a multimillionaire when he divorced he gave his wife 4 million, and the house, dude went into depression and had to restart at 61 years old basically all over.
You can play all the right cards and still get screwed, by religion, cults, bad relationships, accidents, cancers, randomness.
Better to live for a good time then a long time, you might not even make it to 50, your parents might die sooner then expected, and all that time working would be spent for 1 more day with your family that you ignored working so hard.
The models are good but remember the best years to live and have fun are when your young, you can pick up young women without having to sugar daddy for it…. a girl wanting to sleep with you for you and not your money, it's only when your young

I’d say the biggest mistake is not investing in yourself. The opportunity cost of investing in other things, even in appreciating assets (stocks etc) is huge because if, for example, you invested in your financial literacy and understanding finances and the financial system the choice of investments you make will be much much better and pay off manifold over time

The point about pets is the same with relationships with humans. Getting a partner and kids is a liability rather than an asset (generally, unless you’re bezos’s ex), but it’s done for immaterial reasons (hopefully), and so is having a pet
